The Opposition Parliamentary Leader, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, has urged appointed chairpersons and board members at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Cooperation (SLCB) to change the cooperation from analogue TV to digital medium.
The opposition leader made the statement on Tuesday 4th June 2024 during the debate on the Presidential nominees in the Chambers of Parliament.
“Before your tenure ends, make history and make changes on the cooperation (SLBC). Change it from analogue to digital like what other nations like Ghana have done,” Hon. Kargbo.
Hon Kargbo further said SLBC was the first and the only English speaking television in West Africa but today it is still using analogue broadcasting in a world marred by digital media and HD muti-media.
“SLBC is the oldest public broadcaster in West Africa but what’s wrong with it today,” he enquired.
The Opposition Leader also pleaded with the appointees to work for the best interest of the people by bringing innovation on the oldest public broadcaster in West Africa.
Members of Parliament also expressed similar sentiments from both side of the aisles.
On a separate development, making his submissions during the approval of the presidential nominees, the Chief Whip of the Opposition, Hon Abdul Karim Kamara, said water sector is one of the weakest serving sectors in Sierra Leone.
He informed the house that the “Presidential Lodge depends on water bouncers nowadays.”
Hon AKK pointed out that water has been a perennial problem which affects most people in Sierra Leone.
He spoke about the need for government to put premium on water production for the benefit of all citizens.
He said it is a shame for a Presidential Lodge to depend on water bouncers to supply the area water.
