The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mohamed Lamin Tarawally has said in Freetown that treason offence is bailable through the High Court.
Responding to question at a news conference held at his office today, Mr. Tarawally said the law makes provision for that but that only a Judge can do so at his discretion. He was responding to question regarding the bail issued to former President Ernest Bai Koroma on medical grounds on Wednesday January 17th 2024.
He said “As far as the Prosecution is concerned they are satisfied with the ruling of the High Court Judge to grant permission to former President Koroma to seek specialized medical attention in Abuja, Nigeria.” He said the former President has two sureties including Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray and Osman Foday Yansaneh before he was released.
Mr. Tarawally disclosed that four witnesses have so far testified in the ongoing Court Martial, adding that they expect to complete the presentation of the 52 witnesses to the Court as soon as possible to justify their claims. He said all accused people both civilians and military officers are innocent until proven guilty before the law.”
