A twenty-feet container loaded zackom mineral has on Saturday 18 March left at least eight people dead in Waterloo.
The truck, AHQ 411, was coming from Tombo highway axis in morning hours around 10 when it fell off and killed many people while others were being hospitalized.
“We have gathered unrecognized bodies of victims while many more are still trapped under the container” an army officer told Africa 24.
Equally, last week Wednesday was also a sad day for most residents in Waterloo.
A speeding jeep which was coming from Masiaka highway killed seven people including school-going kids.
An eyewitness account says the driver of the jeep had failed a brake about a distance away before the vehicle hit a shop at Bottom Mango, which is few meters away from Post office in Waterloo.
Gruesome accidents are very common along Waterloo highways.
The collided truck is said to be taken to Benguema barracks for custody.
Last year in mid-March a forty-feet container also skidded off landing on the same spot at Waterloo Tombo market junction.
It’s a crowed place of business people and passersby.
Traffic police officers have made tireless efforts to stop people from selling around.
But ice sellers, bike riders and shoppers have proven it difficult for officers to get them off the streets.
Onlookers at Waterloo Tombo accident are blaming police not to have pushed traders from the streets.
“When I chase traders off the streets, they think I am a bad guy,” complains inspector Vandi in Waterloo.
