The Member of Parliament from Kambia, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara has reminded the SLRA authorities about the bad condition of Samu-Kichon road in Kambia which he believes if fixed, will surely add value to the President’s trumpeted ‘Feed Salone’ project in terms of agriculture.
He went further to state that, particular road as well as the Tonko Limba road which he said was abandoned by the SLPP government, are bothe equally important for the Feed Salone programme.
The lawmaker stressed: “Our roads are bad and Gento Group of Companies which was awarded the contract to construct one of these roads, the Tonko Limba road after giving the people confidence at the end woefully failed them.
Hon. AKK said that the Speaker himself is surrounded by bad roads, citing that the roads leading to his residence, Parliament and the road leading to his native Gbinti.
He also disclosed that the roads leading to the President, Vice President’s is also terrible, adding that the President during his speeches in Parliament always mentions roads that will be paved.
Hon. Kamara underscored that, the last five years in spite of the millions of dollars set aside for the construction of roads, no single road was paved especially in the north of the country.
He said national resources need to be shared equitably, adding that the roads that were constructed by the Chinese were supposed to be used for transporting goods to market among other things.
“The major problem we have as a country is nonperformance of those in charge to save the country. Instead, people used state resources to enrich themselves with impunity,” he added.
He said qualification and experience are not the problem, insisting that the major problem of Sierra Leone is how to save the country’s depleted economy and good performance to enhance better outcomes.
Meanwhile, the legislator praised that the newly approved Bank Governor to be qualified for the position but expressed doubts the he worked with the then All People’s Congress (APC) administration that left the country in austerity as he is also working with the current SLPP administration that has allowed the dollar to skyrocket.
He maintained that the New Bank Governor should give the country assurance that the institution is now committed to working than it did under the previous administrations.
Hon. AKK also lampooned the former Bank Governor, Professor Kelfala Kallon for not living up to expectations, adding that when the former governor was invited in Parliament to defend the issue of the economy he was unable because of his abysmal performance.
He said, the newly approved governor was the adviser to Professor Kallon, admonishing the new governor not to act upon the advice he gave to Professor Kallon with regards the country’s economy.
