A government of any country needs to be very vigilant in its day-to-day running of state affairs including the need for a firm and bold implementation of strategies to alleviate the sufferings of the masses.
Added to that, the government needs to be very alert and ready to fall on all public functionaries without fear or favour when they fail to perform their duties for the benefit of the country and the people.
Tribal affiliations, familial relationship, kinship obligation and the like have always been some of the contributing factors to the undoing of governments in Africa, Sierra Leone being a peculiar case.
At least by now Sierra Leonean leaders, through the unfolding of our historic past, should know the various causes of the failure of governments in Africa.
It is quite obvious that those who do not learn from the past are bound to repeat their past mistakes.
The SLPP government was elected by the people and therefore must always have in mind the interest of the people.
Politicians are not elected for their own self-aggrandizement. They are elected to serve the people and in doing so, they must be selfless, humble and not be like the proverbial peacock that complacently shows off its colour for ostentatious attraction so as to force God Himself to admire His own creation.
It has been observed that many functionaries in the SLPP government are not acting in the best interest of the state.
Their approach to certain salient issues that affect the society’s wellbeing is an element of concern.
That is why the President needs to frequently watch his men/women and prod them to action so that indolence, selfishness and corruption would be put aside in the interest of the state.
President Bio should always be mindful of the fact that, when his government succeeds, all his ministers will definitely identify themselves with him.
On the contrary, when he fails, he alone will bear the disapprobation, he being the President and the head.
Africa24 is not an enemy of the government, rather the institution always put the government of any kind on it toes.
What we don’t stand for is the pharisaic approbation of people that do not deserve praise.
If Sierra Leoneans were bold enough to tell political leaders the truth in the past and not condescend to unnecessary eulogies, we would not have been plunged into all the woes that we are being confronted with today.
We in the Africa24 Newspaper therefore hope that President Bio will keep his eyes and ears open in the interest of the state, government and the people in general.
