Residents of Waterloo in Western Area Rural district almost have resigned their fate as they lack many social amenities.
The communities are lacking constant electricity, pure water supply and open markets, police stations to kick crime away, several hospitals to beat of the alarming rate of illnesses.
Taking a jeep-drive to places within the Western area rural district, it makes a gruesome sight.
One of the oldest British colonial slaves-settlements, Waterloo, since 1800s is still denied pipe-borne running water, uninterrupted electricity and good medical care offered to residents.
Over the years, the dwellers of the town which got its name from a Canadian city, are increasing in number, making Waterloo one of the fastest growing towns in human population in Sierra Leone.
But it still lacks basic social services.
Its residents are not well-informed on government’s policies and developments themes.
Asked about their opinions about the status of development in the district, some residents in Waterloo responded in a negative and their dominant responses are captured by Africa 24 press.
“We’re many here than other residents elsewhere; Waterloo is dense in mass, but we are the most unlucky people.”
“We don’t even know where Waterloo stops or ends or where to describe as Western Area Rural.”
“Governments, past and present, don’t want to know about us – whether we exist or not; we suffer for transport means, schools to educate our young and many other things in life.”
