Many Sierra Leoneans believe that since the SLPP took up governance, development has become circumvented due to their ineptitude to provide quality leadership that could have improved the lives of the citizens.
The worst part of it all is that some of the developmental strides that they met on the table such as (the Mamama Airport project) that would have mitigated the effects of poverty on people were placed under the green carpet.
It is well-known that during the regime of APC under the leadership of former President Ernest Bai Koroma, most of the towns and cities were having regular electricity supply.
Many citizens were living average life due to frequent power running out at the time, and there were massive developments. But since the inception of this current administration, things have gone from bad to worse, according to the views of people.
On the 26th June 2025, Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara was in parliament as he was highlighting some of the typical issues which have become impediments toward the progress of the nation.
During the submission, Opposition Chief Whip made it clear that there were just numerous excuses the government has been making especially on the aspect of power outages.
And the excuses are not novel ones because those challenges have been surfacing during the reign of APC but yet the citizens were enjoying unwavering supply of electricity.
He emphasized that electricity is the backbone for any nation to develop and without it a country would continue to be at the backdoor of development whilst other nations are progressing.
” Stop excuses, go to work”, he said. He made this statement as the government continues to accuse innocent people of their inability to live up to expectations especially in the case of the Chief Minister’s claims that religious houses are notorious of stealing light with impunity.
Furthermore, Opposition Chief Whip drew the attention of the well to some of the statements made by the then Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr. Jacob Jusu Saffa that he had one time told the nation that they had negotiated with energy distributors to decrease the tariff. But the plans became fruitless as there are still no increments on the tariff.
He maintained that customers painfully succumb to the unbearable increments on the energy tariff but light supply has been unstable in the country.
He called on the government to speed up in addressing the needs of the people and to stop the blame game which, he said, would not help their administration to be able to deliver on public services.
