Members, supporters and sympathizers of the main opposition All People’s Congress have taken a swipe at their 2023 standard bearer Dr. Samura Kamara for his late decision to address them after the June 24th 2023 presidential election that saw the controversial retention of President Julius Maada Bio in power.
They have decried the latest moves by their presidential hopeful as “too little, too late, stressing that he must have done what he did on Tuesday immediately after the announcement of the results.
“Delay is dangerous,” a desperate supporter fumed, immediately after Tuesday’s press conference held at their party national headquarters, at Old Railway Line in Freetown, fearing that the situation is giving Maada Bio the leeway to entrench himself in power.
Others also expressed similar sentiments, claiming that their leader is too soft and lenient for Sierra Leone, not to talk of Africa politics where opposition members are constantly harassed, embarrassed and intimidated as the case maybe. “In opposition, one has to sacrifice everything otherwise you will not achieve your desired goal,” they said, noting that is exactly what they had expected of Dr. Samura Kamara.
They said what Dr. Kamara told them at the conference was nothing new from what they have been hearing from other quarters. In, fact they claimed that his action was triggered by the call of Adebayor, who, they believe is dictating (remote controlling) things within their party.
This is really shameful; because it seems there are no serious people in our party to direct things the right way, rather relying heavily on the dictates of someone the party has long distanced itself from.
Dr. Samura Kamara ended the long statement on Tuesday with the call for his members to remain calm, strong and courageous whilst they wait for the mediated dialogue between the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party and his APC much to the annoyance of his members who remained adamant for the rerun of the presidential election.
APC has referred to the election as “contentious” insisting it was fraud, rigged, stolen and lack credibility, thus refusing to accept its outcomes whilst calling for international community’s intervention to investigate the process for possible rerun.
