On Wednesday 5th April, 2023, President Julius Maada Bio has had his last supper with his cabinet ministers and other appointees at State House to deliberate on how and what will be their next campaign project ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The meeting which was well attended by all heads of MDAs lasted for hours as there were lots of topical issues being discussed by all and sundry including president Bio’s re-election as president for the second term.
According to Christian perspective, the Last Supper is the final meat that Jesus shared with his disciples in Jerusalem before his crucifixion. And now president Bio has held his final cabinet meeting and could not foreshadow if he will return to State House after the June 24th, 2023 elections as he could not fulfill his manifesto promises to the people.
Political commentators have said that president Bio will be crucified on June 24th, 2023 based on his numerous promises he made during 2018 which he could not deliver. And now that he has had his final meat of the country’s resources, citizens were not expecting the president to mock them again by dancing on them.
Even though, the country has been run by some greedy politicians for five years complete, the public was expecting president Bio and his entourage to embark on educating the public the reason that they could not live up to their expectations rather than he and his cohorts dancing on the public for their unfulfilled promises.
It is believed by political analysts that it is during the president last cabinet meeting that his appointees will pledge their full fledge support by doling out huge amount of state wealth in support of their employer’s re-election as president. Most of the appointees will not want to lose their jobs and the only way they could secure their jobs is by splashing money on the presidency.
The last cabinet meeting is not the one where the public is expecting the Head of State to reshuffle for underperforming, but one that has to do with allegiance to the presidency despite serious tussle for the president to return to State House.
According to one school of thought, the last cabinet should be the one where the government must be able to tell the public what were the gains and challenges of the government in their just completed five years rule. This school of thought believes that transparency and accountability is key instrument in running a democratic government. And is of the strong conviction that president Bio throughout his five years rule was unable to be accountable and transparent to the citizenry which this school of thought believes will not help him at all in the multi-tier elections.
The last supper of president Bio before leaving the hot seat is also viewed as a grand farewell ceremony of the PAOPA regime due to inhuman treatments, capsizing of the economy, massive embezzlement of state resources, breaching of mining contracts and so forth that they have succeeded in achieving.
