Members from the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and All People’s Congress (APC) parties in Sierra Leone Parliament also Members of Israel Caucus Committee in Parliament on Tuesday 27th February 2024 at Committee Room One in the Sierra Leone Parliament called on the States of Israel and Palestine to “drop down their guns and allow peace to reign in their nation and the world over.
According to the MPs, the war in the two nations has affected a lots of nations around the world, adding that peace in the two nations will mean peace to the whole world.
“Lots of women, children and the elderly have died during the conflict between Israel and Palestine. We want the people of Israel and Palestine to stop the war because of the adverse effects the war is having on the poor masses in the two sister countries,” Hon Rose Marie from Tonkolili District, said.
According to APC MPs Israel has done so much for Sierra Leone and it is prudent that the West Africa country deems it needful to call for peace in Israel and Palestine.
She said the innocent population on both sides had suffered so much as a result of the war and therefore to appealing to Israeli and Palestinian soldiers to see the humanity aspect of the war and call for a drop down of their guns.
The SLPP MP who doubles as the Chairman of the Israel Caucus Committee in Parliament, Hon Emerson Saa Lamina, said Sierra Leone is the greatest beneficial to Israel development projects in Sierra Leone.
He said, although Israel is yet to establish an embassy in Sierra Leone, it has provided a lots of development for Sierra Leone ranging from the construction of the country’s parliament, treasure building and among many other developments in the country.
Hon Lamina underscored the importance for Israel to establish their embassy in the country for a sustain relationship to thrive and calls for a continuation of the development trajectory.
He maintained that Sierra Leone is in good spirits with Israel and would always be supporting the good that exists between the two nations.
He, therefore, against this backdrop, called to the end of the war in Israel and Palestine.
The SLPP MP from Kono district, Hon Rebecca Kamara, also expressed serious concerns about the killing of Israel people by militias.
She said the Committee and Parliament condemned such act of violence against peaceful citizens and called for an immediate halt to the war.
“The war between the two countries has taken a long time and this is the time through prayers to end the conflict and stay as united people. “Children have suffered so much, women have died, innocent youths have also received the pinch. Let’s pray for the end of the conflict in Israel and Palestine,” Hon female MP said.
Other members of the Israel Caucus Committee pleaded to the world to intervene and end the conflict as well as expressing hope that once peace reigns in Israel, it will establish its embassy in Sierra Leone.
