Members of the Civil Society Consortium on Community Accountability and Service Delivery have on Thursday April 25th 2024 endorsed the decision of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) to increase the price of driving and vehicle licenses effective Monday 22nd April 2024.
Commenting on the increment, the National Coordinator of the Consortium, William Sao-Lamin said after careful study, engagements and considerations, they decided to support the increment because of the current economic situation, inflation rates and the need to maintain high standards in the road transport sector.
He said they have conducted wide range of Investigations on their general operations which reveals that the operational expenses of the Authority has significantly increased due to what they described as global inflation.
He pointed out that the adjustment in license tariff is necessary to cover these rising cost to ensure the sustainability of the operations of the Authority.
In their contributions, the Global Coordinator Moses Mambu and Alphonzo Manley said the maintenance quality services including road maintenance and safety measures require adequate funding. They noted that the increment in license tariffs will definitely enable the Authority to uphold these standards and enhance road safety for all road users. They maintained that the increment is a necessary step to maintain quality services and enhance road safety in Sierra Leone.
