In a bid to upgrade the standard of the 2023/24 league season, Sierra Leone Premier League Board (SLPLB) is set to introduce a Video Assistant Referee (VAR), a technology game tracker in league matches across the country.
Speaking during the session, Football Administrator, Rodney Michael, says it will mark a major step towards seeing improved officiating and fairer outcomes in Sierra Leonean football.
The SLPL board if it is able to acquire a mini VAR Set it will undergo trial tracks during the upcoming weeks.
This will be a welcoming news for football lovers in the country.
He said VAR is a match official technology in football who assists referees by reviewing critical decisions using video footage and providing advice to the referee based on those reviews.
A key component of VAR is the Assistant Video Assistant Referees (AVAR) or officials, who work alongside the VAR in a dedicated video operation room, thus reviewing specific aspects of the game and communicating potential issues for further scrutiny.
