The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Sierra Leone Parliament has commended the management of the Audit Service Sierra Leone for their efforts in ensuring transparency and accountability in the country’s financial management.
The commendation was made by Hon. Aaron Koroma, an opposition Member of Parliament and member of the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament.
He made this statement during a recent one-day workshop organized for PAC members to better understand the Audit Report and the work of the ASSL. According to Hon. Koroma, the Audit Service has been doing a commendable job in carrying out its mandate to audit government institutions and ensure that public funds are used effectively and efficiently.
The Audit Service, he said, has been working tirelessly to identify and address control weaknesses in the financial management systems of government agencies, and has been making significant progress in promoting transparency and accountability in the public sector. He also commended the Service for its efforts to engage stakeholders and promote public awareness about the importance of auditing and accountability.
The Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the PAC, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, appreciated the effort of the ASSL management for the initiative in organizing the workshop and urged them to continue the good work. “We recognise the importance of the Audit Service in ensuring that public funds are used properly and that there is transparency and accountability in government,” He said.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is a statutory body responsible for reviewing and scrutinising the Auditor General’s Reports, which contain findings on government financial transactions. The Committee’s report is presented to the Parliament for debate and action.
The PAC has been working closely with the Audit Service to strengthen the country’s financial management system and promote transparency and accountability in government. The Committee has been conducting regular hearings on the audits of government institutions and has been making recommendations for improvement.
The commendation by the PAC is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Audit Service management and staff, who have been working tirelessly to promote transparency and accountability in Sierra Leone.
