It is no secret that the Wise Bird has a responsibility to perform and that responsibility is to educate and inform the people accurately about issues of national interests in and out of the country.
The Wise Bird is well-known for his stances on issues affecting the people he represents to always allay their fears and doubts.
The patriotic, fearless and uncompromising bird has been having sleepless nights all these times as it was thinking on whom to put the blame on, whether the government or the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA). But up-to-date, the Wise Bird is finding it very difficult to distinguish where the blame must go.
After a deep breath, the Wise Bird came to the conclusion that, the powers of the government supersedes that of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA); so plus /minus the government carries the blame.
The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) was established by an Act of Parliament but the government was elected by the people to handle the affairs of the State.
Some of the functions of the Authority are; to construct and/or maintenance all roads in the country either direct or indirectly.
But from the look of things that responsibility has been lacking by the Authority, to say the least. They sub-contracted unqualified people to do poor work for kick-backs.
Everybody will agree with the Wise Bird that, certain roads in the capital Freetown have been left unattended to by the so-called institution that is responsible to do the work.
A clear case in point is the Fourah Bay Road by the Eastern Police Clock Tower and roundabout; that road has been left unattended to for almost a year or two now; poda-podas, kekehs, okadas and even predestines are finding it very difficult to go through to the other end.
In fact, the road is now a pool for people to wash their feet; some even launder things to the discomfort of others.
While walking there, the Wise Bird noticed that the entire Eastern Police round-about was poorly constructed by SLRA or whosoever the contractor was, not to talk about the Goderich Street including the Fourah Bay Road by Bombay Street junction as these places were poorly constructed by SLRA or their agents and nobody shows concern on the monitoring process during and after the poor work done.
The Wise Bird can say without hesitation that, the Drivers’ Union, kekeh union, okadas union and even the so-called civil societies in the country have all been bought over by the government. So they no longer have the moral voice to talk on issues affecting the people by way of putting the government on their toes.
Fourah Bay Road is an eyesore, visitors come and go and even government officials are seeing the deplorable condition of the Fourah Bay Road stretching towards Eastern Police station but with its ugly looks nobody is saying anything.
Sierra Leone is now a state of survival for the fittest, the end days are here; everybody is trying for his/her own share of the cake.
The Wise Bird can say here that, even the dead, the unborn not to talk about the living knows that, the Fourah Bay Road Eastern Police roundabout, Goderich Street and Fourah Bay Road on Bombay Street junction were poorly constructed by the SLRA or it so-called contractors.
The Wise Bird had chance to speak to few of the passers-by. They described both the government and SLRA as one and the same in terms of unseriousness in the areas of State matters. Some people interviewed were very quick to say ‘dem kam fo tif nor mor no beteh tin dem nor do since dem kam’.
The other people the Wise Bird contacted said, after spending millions of Leones on the road it is left uncompleted and nobody is saying anything, meaning both the government and SLRA are happy to see the road in a bad state as it is there now.
The contract may have been awarded to a FAKE contractor who has no knowledge in construction as alleged by some members of the public. And how the contract was awarded to them; only God in Heaven knows, it looks like it was just job for the boys but the Wise Bird is watching oh!
