President Julius Maada Bio has disclosed in several occasions that his travels always yield good dividend and goodies to the nation.
He had said repeatedly that during his travels he has attracted several investments and works to bring in employment opportunities in the country.
Bio’s travels have saved millions of dollars investment into the country including the Lungi International Airport and many investment, his supporters have defended him.
In the contrary, a vibrant Civil Society Activist in Sierra Leone, Musa Jalloh aka Jmus, has raised serious concern over President Julius Maada Bio’s frequent travels abroad.
He said the President has visited China, the UAE, Nigeria, Senegal, the United States and France within a short period.
Musa Jalloh said the people of Sierra Leone are deeply frustrated over President Bio’s extensive travels, especially amidst the economic challenges the country is facing.
Jmus said the suffering masses have expressed their discontents over the frequent foreign travels of president Bio amidst the deadly Kush drug in the country which is killing the youth.
The CSO said, according to section 5, subsection 2 b of the Constitution of Sierra Leone 1991, the security, peace, and welfare of the people of Sierra Leone should be the primary focus and responsibility of the government.
However, he said, it appears that the government of President Julius Maada Bio is neglecting its duty to prioritize the welfare of the people than travelling.
He maintained that President Bio’s numerous travels even in the middle of COVID-19 pandemic, including his recent trips have raised concerns about his commitments toward addressing the pressing issues facing the nation.
“It’s worth noting that President Bio’s has traveled more frequently than any other President in Sierra Leone’s history,” he said.
The activist believes that a responsible government should heed to the concerns of its citizens.
“But it seems that the New Direction government is not listening to the cries and plights of the people of Sierra Leone.”
He opined that many citizens are enduring in the hardship.
But President Bio’s promises to alleviate their suffering have fallen short.
“First ever in the history of this country for Guinean currency to be more value than ours and our President is busy creating unnecessary ministries and agencies making the wage bill becoming so bloated,” JMus said.
Musa Jalloh revealed that President Bio had promised to end suffering in the country. But he has been wasting taxpayers’ money on travels.
The massive corruption in the Paopa government is another issue bordering many people, he said.
