The progressive Member of Parliament representing the people of Western Area urban Hon. Benjamin Turay on Friday 24/11/2023 used the occasion during the debate of the Appropriation Act, 2024 at the Chamber of Parliament to credit President Bio and the First Lady of Sierra Leone for championing development for the people of Sierra Leone.
The charismatic Member of Parliament in his submission to the debate said that APC would continue to remain in opposition for failing to tell the truth and described the budget “as the people’s document’. He highlighted the positive aspects of the budget and alluded it to the President for providing water facilities through the Office of the First Lady for the people of Wilberforce. According to him, the government has constructed quality roads, and water facilities in his district. “This is the only government that can rule this country better,” he said and went on to appreciate President Bio for the support to the Free Quality Education agenda.
“Mr. Speaker Honourable members, let me first of all, acknowledge the tremendous work done by His Excellency the President Dr. Julius Maada Bio in the areas of education, energy, agriculture, tourism, and other sectors,” he averred.
Hon. Benjamin referred to the budget as the budget for “the poor people and the development of the state,” and went on to note that through the proper implementation of the budget for the fiscal year 2024, it would help to promote and address “Feed Salone project” initiative by the government. “It would help to alleviate poverty and create more jobs for the youth in the country,” he added.
The development oriented MP noted that the budget would also reduce the cost of living and promote the development of agricultural productivity. He went on to appreciate the Minister of Finance and his team and also the international partners for supporting President Bio’s agenda for development. He concluded by calling on the Sierra Leone Roads Authority for the construction of the Bottom Mango to Wilberforce Road to lessen the burden on huge number of people living in that location.
