Reports reaching this medium from Waterloo some 20km from the capital Freetown has disclosed that angry youth and family members have vowed to kill Sulayman Muhalim Bangura who made a miraculous escape from been lynched to death after he was caught red handed with his gay partner having sexual intercourse.
Religiously, constitutionally and traditionally the practice of gay or homosexuality is totally forbidden in Sierra Leone given that it is an immoral and evil act and its punishment is severe.
Sulayman Muhalim Bangura, born on 27th April, 1990 in Kono district in a devout Muslim family that considers such practice as a despicable act against God in the strongest possible terms.
Sulayman’s case was embarrassing more so when his father is a reputable chief Imam in one of the Mosques in Waterloo.
According to report, Sulayman has been in this clandestine evil and immoral practice for very long time before he finally ran out of luck when he was caught by irate youth in Waterloo one evening alongside his gay partner in crime.
Reports have it that, on June 8th 2022 Sulayman visited his gay partner Aluspa Kulibaly who he was dating since college days; but ended up having sex with him.
The report further that, while having sex with Aluspa, a suspicious neighbor in desperation forcefully broke the door open and met them on the act. He quickly ran out of the room and started shouting homo! Gay men! The scene immediately attracted desperate community youths who were armed with stones, sticks and other weapons to teach the evil men a bitter lesson.
However, Sulayman miraculously escaped the irate youth and spent the night to one of his friend whom he confided his sexuality in him. Only his friend and his gay partner were aware about his intention to move to an undisclosed location.
Reports indicate that Sulayman’s father had sworn on the Holy Quran that he was no longer his son, and promised to kill him or rather have him rot in jail for the rest of his life if he dare set eyes on him anytime soon. His father’s stance to eliminate him was also endorsed by his uncles who emphasized that the only way the family will regain their indelible reputation is to destroy Sulayman’s life as that will bring an end to his evil gay act and respite for the disappointed family.
In Sierra Leone, gay members are discriminated against, harassed and criminalized. Those that had been found wanting have faced severe fatal consequences as they are ostracized and disown by their own family members as well as community people. The worst case is police failure to protect victims who may have no alternative rather than to conceal their sexuality.
