The Member of Parliament representing Bombali District, Hon Ibrahim Barrie has called on the government to lay more foundation for the promotion of agricultural productivity for the nation.
The MP made the submission during the debate of the budget in the Chamber of Parliament on Tuesday 21 November 2023.
Hon Ibrahim Barrie said priority should be given to agriculture and recalled how former President Tejan Kabbah promised the nation on agricultural diversity, he advised and prayed that this time round the country succeed in the agriculture sector.
The sound MP outlined the way forward he thinks agriculture will succeed in the development of the country and went on to give out a comparative analysis of how agriculture is striving in other African countries; relative to the “model” of development.
He recommended that, if Feed Salone to succeeds, monitoring and evaluation should be considered, also with strong education and research on the agricultural food chain.
On education, Hon Ibrahim Barrie called on the House to implement the recommendation of 2021 needs assessment on Higher education conducted by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC).
