As COFA 2023 gala tournament is underway, Leicester road community men’s football team has put preparations in place ahead of the Central one football association (COFA) inter- Community football competition at the Parade ground in Freetown.
Speaking at the first executive members meeting held on Sunday 23rd July, 2023, Chairman Mohamed Lamin Sankoh well-known as Sakoma said the primary target as Chairman and his executive members is to win this year’s COFA Championship 2023.
However, preparations have been going on well, lot of competition among the players. We have over 80 players interested to play for the Leicester Road Community and we will reduce the number of players before the final list” Chairman Sakoma said.
He added that first match in the competition would set the tempo for the team’s aspiration at the tournament.
“It is a huge task for us at the moment because we need slice of money to sign players, coaches and other logistics so the players could be comfortable before, during and after the competition.”
Chairman Sakoma disclosed that they have set goals and targets as executive members, going forward, we need monetary support from the Leicester road community stakeholders at home and abroad, well-wishers to support the community to win this year’s league.
“It is not going to be easy, but with the financial support of community investors, we can make sure our boys are ready for the competition. It has been a long time since Leicester road community did not win football trophies”.
According to the Head Coach, Daddy Yayah Samura, he is under scrutiny to see if he can take Leicester road community to the COFA grand final this year.
‘I strongly believe that Leicester Road community will be the favorite to win COFA 2023” he concluded.
