“We have dismissed, suspended and queried nurses working at the Connaught Hospital for professional misconduct in the last couple of years,” says Dr. Kapuwa.
He said while updating the public on the activities of the Hospital.
He described the Connaught hospital as the best, adding that they had trained health care professionals whom other hospitals don’t have.
He noted that the level of professionalism among the staff is very high.
Doctor Kapuwa spoke about the development of the continuous medical training programmes by the nurses council.
He said one of the criteria for renewal of license for medical doctors and nurses is that the medical personnel must show the courses they had offered.
He said they wanted to make Connaught hospital one of the best places for medical treatment in Sierra Leone.
“We have launched the electronic medical records, replacing the paper registration which will easily facilitate the treatment of patients,” he confirmed.
He disclosed that the attitude of some people and the lack of adequate resources are some of the challenges facing them while doing their work.
He said further, “We need additional resources to buy medical equipment to ensure an effective service delivery [at all times].”
He said several waste bins had been put at strategic places inside the hospital to ensure the place is always clean.
He said the Ministry of Health is pushing very hard to enable them get the required equipment to facilitate their work.
He talked of the machines that the government had procured to help identify illnesses, something he noted as lacking in the past.
