The National Coordinator of the Network of Ex-Asylum Seekers (NEAS) Mr. Abdulai Daramy on behalf of the entire executive and deportees has issued out a statement expressing gratitude to the Human Rights Commission Sierra Leone and the Ministry of Social Welfare for their utmost collaboration in promoting the needs of his organization aimed at facilitating measures for the immediate welfare of his members.
He said over the years the Human Rights Commission Sierra Leone has held several talks with the executive assuring them of their protection and commitment to taking the lead in making their voices heard by government and humanitarian organizations at home.
Mr. Daramy said such a clear manifestation further indicates the Commission’s determination at all times to exercise its mandate without discrimination.
He said the Ministry of Social Welfare on the other hand has opened its doors to listen and facilitate all issues presented to it by NEAS bordering the re-integration of deportees into society, welfare provisions, employment and other socio-economic needs by appealing to governmental and non-governmental institutions which dedicate their task to save humanity.
He said although 2023 was like previous years, a challenging one, they have however scored goals which have given more hopes to deportees that very soon, they will be able to achieve their demands.
The coordinator disclosed that they have given welfare assistance in the form of food and money to members and have held successful meetings with stakeholders. Over the most debated deportation guidelines for the creation of deportation policies, he said they have equally held cordial talks with most heads of institutions.
Mr. Daramy said for 2024, NEAS is confident that all that has been put in place for 2023 will begin to pay dividends. He thanked his executive for their voluntary relentless efforts to save lives. He said that is exactly what our creator (Allah) asked them to do if they are to seek a heavenly welcome.
He revealed that hopefully next week NEAS will distribute tokens to deserved deportees for a prosperous end of season and shall also visit their homes to discuss with their respective families as a way to discourage stigmatization.
