The Opposition Chief Whip in Parliament who doubles as the Member of Parliament from Kambia District, Hon Abdul Karim Kamara (AKK), has stated that, corruption has become more fashionable since time immemorial, adding that “those who are supposed to hunt corruption have become hunted”.
He said as the fight against corruption stands, many hold the views that since President Maada Bio took up governance they have seen ever to be forgotten corruption scandals.
Few days ago, he said, the ACC Commissioner disclosed billions of Leones that had been recovered which and that has become much- talk about issue in the country.
He pointed out that, against that back drop, the Opposition Chief Whip, Hon Abdul Karim Kamara, unavoidably made his stance clear during the parliamentary sitting in connection with the money being recovered by the ACC together with some of the statements made by the Commissioner during the press briefing.
He started by commending the ACC Commissioner for recovering huge amount of money from fraudsters and which, to him, is a stepping stone to mitigate corruption in the country.
However, he was very perplexed over some of the statements of the ACC Commissioner, especially when he mentioned that he didn’t trust the judiciary.
“The reason why I am enforcing the collection of stolen money is because the judiciary has not helped the ACC in recovering state looted funds”. ACC Commissioner said.
Opposition chief whip made it clear that when those who are occupying state institutions should also understand the statements coming from them because either their statements to make or unmake the society.
According to him, the statement of the ACC Commissioner has the propensity to deter the integrity and uprightness of the judiciary.
“If the ACC cannot trust the Judiciary, who am I to trust the judiciary?”-Opposition Chief Whip said.
