The Minister Fisheries and Marine Resources, Emma Kowa Jalloh has condemned the recent act of violence perpetrated by some youths at Tombo resulting in wanton destruction of lives and properties in the community. Speaking to Newsmen, following her visit to the area, Madam Jalloh said her ministry did not authorize the rationing of Fifteen Local Fishing boats going to sea Per day.
Her ministry, she said is responsible for the management and development of the fisheries sector in the country, adding that there are established structures, comprising Fisheries Officers, Community Management Associations and representatives from the Artisanal Fishers Consortium in various fishing communities including Tombo, charged with the responsibility of managing the affairs of those communities.
He entreated all stakeholders including Districts Emergency Operational Centres to work in collaboration with the ministry’s assigned staff.
‘’Our doors are always opened for dialogue”, she said and called on coastal communities to strictly adhere to health preventive measures relating to the Corona /Covid 19 pandemic. She also challenged youths to renounce violence and appealed for calm whilst the investigation into the matter continues.
