The Wise Bird has been following the activities in the sporting world particularly on the association that is responsible for disseminating sports news in Sierra Leone.
We are talking about the Sports Writers Association Sierra Leone (SWASAL).
In the process of following up the above association’s activities, the patriotic, fearless and uncompromising bird noticed that there a lot of abnormalities within the association, and that has made some members to have lost interest in the association.
The Wise Bird is not making or rather castigating aspersions against anybody or group of people, but only that the Wise Bird always loves to call things by their correct and proper names and at the appropriate time.
Say what you may, the sports writers’ association belongs to a group of people and is not owned by an individual or a handful of people who are bent on benefiting themselves.
The Wise Bird has noticed of late that all international sports coverage clandestinely goes to only the executive members and to those very close to the executive-the other set of beneficiaries at SWASAL.
In the area of capacity building for other members, it is completely zero to say the least, also the usual National Sports Awards night is now nothing good to write home about.
It will be unwise for anybody to ask the Wise Bird a rhetorical question about the welfare of the membership because now only those in the executive and their associates only benefit from the association by way of traveling secretly without the knowledge of the general membership.
These are the same people accusing other people to be transparent and accountable but when they themselves are not transparent in their dealings with others.
The Wise Bird went out to sound the views of people in respect of the performance of SWASAL.
On this only very few people know about the association’s existence these days, this is because everything the association does of late is in secret. The question is why the secrecy?
The Wise Bird was flying home one morning along Campball Street; central of Freetown, and he got the news that the executive is contemplating to postpone the election of the association with the executive doing this for them to continue to stay in power-at the detriment of the general membership.
What again the Wise Bird has noticed is that the Sports World newspaper is presently in coma and is only waiting for a qualify doctor to resuscitate it.
The Wise Bird cannot point at any achievement which the present executive has done since it came to power.
The Wise Bird will be magnanimous enough with anybody or group of people to challenge the issues at SWASAL by way of making their achievements, if any, known to the membership and by extension the public.
