The Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu, has disclosed that other nations have tollgates with alternative routes but not in the case of Sierra Leone.
“No alternative route was provided for the Wellington-Masiaka tollgate,” he said.
The speaker says it forms part of the reason to meeting with stakeholders regarding the current matter on tollgate tariff regulation.
He said the meeting will be focused on looking at the review of the tollgate tariff as well as the basis on which the review takes place.
The speaker said the people are very much concern about the increment that was intended on all tollgates across the nation.
Speaker Bundu further said the tollgates’ construction forms part of a loan given to the people of Sierra Leone, adding that it is prudent for members of the public to know what has been repaid or to know the present status of the loan agreement.
The speaker further said that the repayment of the tollgate started even before the completion of the road.
He stressed that the vehicles playing the highway have no “provision for alternative routes” especially for those vehicles that may not want to pass trough the main route.
“No choice is given to the road users,” he asserted.
