Bra Parrot has been reading newspapers on a daily basis for the bird to know more about day-to-day events in the Country.
The brave bird came across a daily newspaper called Concord Times newspaper dated 2nd August 2023, and ran a story captioned “I have never sold any government asset”.
In the story the brave bird was able to see the handing over note of the former Minister of Works and Public Assets, Hon. Peter Bayuku Konteh.
He said he had neither sold any government asset nor gave freehold to anyone, nor have he approved the construction of any building on government land over the past five year period he was a Minister.
Bra Parrot was able to notice that, the Minister only approved a temporal structure by the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank at the government ground of Youyi Building.
The brave bird was very much surprised and confused over the issue, to have got such a message form the former Minister of Works and Public Assets in his handing over note when over the years some people have purported to have bought government quarters for a long period of time.
Bra Parrot is of the view that, it’s only Asset Commission and by extension the Ministry of Works and public asset that has the right to sell or lease government property, whosoever must have occupied any of the government quarters did so at their own risk a good number of people are victims from the former Minister’s statement.
The new Minister of Lands and Public Asset, knowing him as people know him as a no nonsense man will leave no stone un-turn he will surely institute an investigative Committee to look into all those occupying government quarters whether it was legally or illegally occupation of those Lands.
Bra Parrot only hoped that, the new Minister will not disappoint the President. To get more, the brave bird flew all the way to the Ministry of Lands and Public Asset to get the correct definition of Land and what Land grabbing is all about.
In the first place senior members in the Ministry gave the brave bird the full definition of what a Land is; they said a Land is the surface of the earth that is not the sea, an area of ground, especially of a particular type or used for a particular purpose.
Later they gave the definition of a land grabber; as any person who occupied a land without going through the proper and correct procedure either by sale, lease or deed of gift is referred to as a Land grabber.
The brave bird will safely say that, Land grabbing is very common these days, a very good number of Sierra Leoneans are Land grabbers’ especially in government Lands and government owned quarters.
The brave bird will continue to make a follow-up to see whether the occupation of some people in government Lands was and is still indeed legal.
It must however, be noted that, the brave bird is not making a case for people or a group people only that the bird call things as they are.
