The Chief Whip of the opposition in Parliament, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara has informed this medium that it’s no longer possible for this nation to revert to one party system irrespective of the actions of the government to do so, given the dire implications.
He disclosed that ‘political hostility’ is one of the factors that is presently disturbing the growth of Sierra Leone as a nation.
He said this has been more prevalent under this current regime because it has a hidden agenda to wipe off its opponents.
The lawmaker pointed out that this occurrence has created unease among the citizens, adding that many are with the view that the current situation in the country is not normal.
“The people are tired with the present political situation, more so when their basic needs have been left unaddressed with prices of essential commodities skyrocketing on daily basis,” he stressed, noting that ‘this is not the Sierra Leone the people used to know.’
The Chief Whip continues to admonish the citizens, especially those in power to realize that only unity between the two largest political parties would cushion development in this nation.
He went on to say that the government needs to accept the opposition party as an alternative group with different ideas; otherwise it would be difficult to maintain the peace and stability of this country. He also made it clear that the current political tension in the country could only be resolved if the government stops the inhumane treatment on the citizens, specifically the opposition members.
He therefore emboldens all patriots to continue to keep the peace and refrain from any form of upheavals despite their political affiliations.
