Sierra Leone at this particular moment of our existence does not need a COUP D’ETAT of any form of military or whatsoever.
The coup plot that happened few months ago was uncalled for as the whole nation is presently fighting to overcome a rather disheartening economic situation in the country.
Thus, Sierra Leone no longer needs what is called a coup d’état that will bring the process of democracy backwards. Nobody would have braved the many threats to life the past and present governments had brought to the people of this country.
All what the people of Sierra Leone at moment want is to go to the polls quietly to elect a new leader and nothing more than that.
It is even very premature at a time like this to think if staging a coup when our democracy itself is very premature in a way that we cannot conduct transparent, credible and fair election to the admiration of the world.
Coups in Sierra Leone, once executed had always been very bloody, with them either innocent people died in the process or after the process.
Coups of whatever nature will live many people nursing their wounds, relatives dead, vehicles and other properties stolen etc.
If we retrospect on the number of young men who lost their lives during yeateryears’ coups, can’t be replaced; we talk of men who should have immensely contributed to the development of our society today; so one would always pray that coups of such despicable nature shouldn’t never be seen happening in our country again.
Gallant men like Sorie Fornah, Bash Taqi, GMT Kaikai and Gabriel Kaikai to name a few, would not have lost their precious lives weren’t it for their alleged involvement in a coup plots.
Coups are normally fired by the insatiable ambition of certain individuals bent on attaining leadership positions permanently at the expense of people’s lives.
In other words, people stage coups in order to step ahead of what time has prescribed for them.
In short, there is no coup without an ulterior motive or motives and a coup of any nature has an endangered effect on all.
If we could remember the atrocious deeds of the coup plotters against the very innocent people of this country, nobody in his right senses or right frame of thinking would wish or want the successful masterplan of any coup to unfold in Sierra Leone today.
At the moment we have a sitting government that was voted for by the people for which they need to protect the people who voted them in any way possible.
Let’s put it short and straight, COUPS will never bring development to any country.
