President Julius Maada Bio has stated at the State Opening of Parliament that, as politicians, they must emulate the courage mustered by their people they govern who have resisted division.
“We must rise above those who spread incivility, disinformation, hate, fear, and division, ” he said.
According to President Bio, turning to one another with empathy, compassion, and respect for diversity is the only way to maintain peace among the top ten most peaceful countries in Africa and as a global leader in religious tolerance.
“This is the only way to nurture and sustain our democracy” he lamented.
He stressed that alongside a cooperative citizenry, they owe their peace, security, and stability to the tireless dedication, vigilance, and heroism of security and intelligence services.
He pointed out that the security of the nation is confronted and foiled violent insurrections, coups, and numerous threats designed to destabilize the nation.
“We will never forget the sacrifices of those who have paid the ultimate price to protect our democracy” he stated.
He therefore said a firm dedication to defending democracy and ensuring the safety of every Sierra Leonean is truly commendable. “Our national security architecture is better coordinated, and early warning and response mechanisms are now more proactive and robust” he boasted.
