The Wise Bird has been following the activities of the party since it came to power in 2018 and is still doing so up to date by following up on the good, the bad and the ugly that is happening.

However, it understands of late the values and norms of democracy have eroded in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

The SLPP PARTY which always claims that it respects democratic principles and open criticism at every given time is on defective radar.

It is doing the opposite than to consolidate the democratic gains achieved over the past three decades.

From the look of things it is just a lip service that the party is giving to the people of this country.

To know what democracy holds, the bird consulted the Oxford, Advanced Learners Dictionary to get the actual meaning of the word “DEMOCRCY”.

According to the above named dictionary, the term means a system of government in which all the people of a country can vote to elect their representatives, it went further to say, “it can mean a fair and equal treatment of everyone in an organization example; the right to take part in making decisions etc.”

From the above definition, one asks, is the SLPP making a fair and equal treatment to other political parties or is the government treating the people fairly and/or equally?

From the look of things, rights to freedom of speech and expression of one’s views are limited; getting to work at public offices is also a major challenge now; there is evidence of many people being dismissed from their jobs unnecessarily without a strong excuse for their dismissal.

Since the SLPP came to power they never have succeeded in promoting democratic values.

They only have succeeded in working against the definition of what it takes to be a democracy in a nation; meaning it has not been allowing a fair and equal treatment of people.

The government also has been claiming to be a listening government but is that the reality seen on the ground?

Is the government ready to listen to criticisms made against its operations as they claimed to be?

The Wise Bird is of the view that, as a way of silencing the press and the general populace, the government brought in the cybercrime law, which is heavier than the seditious libel law.

For those who did not understand the gravity of the cybercrime law, they are happy but for those including the wise bird, the new law is a way of saying that the Wise Bird MUST keep quite in certain areas or matters occurring in the country.

However, the President is not as bad as people perceived him to be, only that, those he has brought in to assist him are the problem in society.

As usual the bird goes out to get the views of the people on issues of national interest.

Some of the people the bird came in contact with described the SLPP government as a very bad government that only makes bad laws and also sets very bad precedents.

All most all those the bird spoke to expressed similar sentiments about the weakness and poor planning within the government system.

According to the views of some people, the SLPP government is in no way democratic either by their talking or doing things.

A good leader will consider or always listen to open criticisms to correct his/her mistakes for the future but the SLPP seemingly do not allow any form of criticism.

With all these, a woman who gave her name to the Wise Bird as Mariama Vandy, lives at Lumley, asked whether the SLPP government is democratic as it purports to be seen.
