It’s well established that education was one of the pillars that pave the threshold for the SLPP government to assume governance as they promised to provide quality education to all Sierra Leoneans indiscriminately.

Many Sierra Leoneans became captivated as they thought the country would gain its past glory as being the anthems of West Africa.

In the past few years, there appear to be a fiasco in the education sector and worst of it the surface of exams’ malpractice which many believe now is the order of the day.

The only thing the

Bio administration is boasting of is the highest number of students being enrolled into the system.

However, to ascertain the quagmire, Opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara has voiced out his dismay over the issue between the Brook Fields Hotel and Milton Margai University.

Opposition Chief Whip stated that since 2001, parliament gave the land and other properties to the then Hotel and Tourism, trade center at Congo Cross to be bonafide properties of Milton Margai College as it was known to be a polytechnic institute.

In 2022, Parliament enacted a new University Act that  gave those properties to the university.

Hon AKK went on to say that since 2001 to now the property belongs to the university and that the Ministry of Tourism has no authority in claiming the said land property.

He reiterated that since he was born this is the very first time to seeing the Minister of Tertiary Education to seek the interest of private business entity above the university.

He  interrogated as to whether that is the way the Minister wants to contribute to empower young people of the country.

He added that the minister needs to protect the university but not a private business entity.

He furthered that, since 2015 when the Brook Fields Hotel agreements were made, they are only paying $6,000 to the government.

He pinpointed that if the entire Brook Fields Hotel premise would have been given to the university, the institution would have paid pay for the land if that was the case.

In conclusion, Opposition Chief Whip continues to appeal to the President as the only gentleman that he  has the authority to save the neck of the university from Brook Fields Hotel as those that are responsible to act to address the situation have ganged up against the university.
