Two accused persons Alhaji Conteh, and Osman Dumbuya appeared in court on two counts charges: for Conspiracy Contrary to Law and Larceny Contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1961. They stole a vehicle.
The Magistrate, in his ruling, has convicted the first accused persons based on the testimonies of Prosecution Witnesses (PW) which are tendered in Court. With supporting evidence and statement of the complainant and witnesses, the accused were found guilty in all counts levied against them.
Both accused persons were led to make statement in almost all the previous appearances they had made in court.
In furtherance of the proceedings, the second accused person was acquitted and discharged from the court on count two, because there was no substantial evidence established that he had actually conspired with the first accused.
According to the particulars of offence, Alhaji Conteh, and Osman Dumbuya on Thursday 13th July 2024, at Youyi Building Freetown conspired together with other persons unknown to commit a minor crime or flony best described as larceny.
The two did steal a big white Toyota four runner jeep with garage number plate (GP) 79802408 valued at Three Thousand Five Hundred United State Dollars ($3,500), which is commensurate to Six Hundred Thousand Leones (Le 600,000) new Leones.
The said vehicle is the property of one Aminata Dumbuya, a Sierra Leonean.
The first accused person was found guilty and the second accused person was acquittal and discharged.
The first accussed pleaded for mercy, while the magistrate responded to him by saying: “Even though it’s your first time, but to make others to fully aware of the seriousness of committing such a crime and for them to discontinue doing such an act, I will sentence you to 3 Years Imprisonment.”
