Magistrate Sahr Kekura in Freetown has committed four accused persons, Thamu Idriss Kargbo, Aruna Turay, Musa Quee and Alpa Sesay to High Court for trial after allegedly found with possession of a prohibited harmful drug, Kush.
The four accused persons are separately charged in their respective cases.
In his ruling at the Pademba Road Magistrate court No.1 on Tuesday 15th October, 2024, magistrate Kekura said Thamu Idriss Kargbo who was charged on one count of found in possession of over 1,000 wraps of Kush and another one count on selling the said drug.
He further said that if there is sufficient evidence against the accused, he would commit to high court for trial, and if not he would discharge him.
The presiding magistrate said evidence presented to the court showed that the accused confessed to police that he was indeed found in possession of the drug and that forensic analysis by police showed that the substances were Kush.
On that basis, the magistrate committed the case to High court on the ground that the prosecution has provided sufficient evidence before the court.
Another accused, Aruna Turay who was charged on one count on found in possession of two sachets of Kush on Saturday 20th April 2024, was also committed to high court after the presiding magistrate said he confessed to police that he was indeed arrest with the said drugs.
Magistrate Kekura went on to say that the forensic analysis showed that the substances he was allegedly found I possession of was Kush. On that basis, he said prosecution has provided sufficient evidence before the court.
Musa Quee is another accused, who was allegedly found in possession of 125 wraps of Kush on 10th May 2024, at Grafton in Western Rural district of Sierra Leone, was also committed to High Court after the magistrate said he confessed to police of the offence.
Alpha Sesay, is another accused charged on one count on found in possession of 68 wraps of Kush at Tamba Kula, Aberdeen in Freetown. The magistrate said the accused earlier denied the allegations to police initially, but he later admitted to the police that the black plastic bag he was allegedly caught with contained the prohibited harmful drug, Kush. He was also committed to High Court for trial.
