The Member of Parliament who is representing Tonko Limba Chiefdom, which is formerly Constituency 058 in Kambia District, Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma, has bemoaned over the deplorable status of the Tonko Limba road which connects the Kambia district and Tonko-Limba chiefdom.
He said the Tonko Limba Chiefdom road, which serves as a crucial link between Kambia other remote villages, has become a death trap due to the rainy season.
According to him, the road has deteriorated to a mud, making movement of people and vehicles impossible.
That he said is endangered the lives and livelihoods of the Chiefdom people and beyond.
“During the downpours, deep potholes and eroded sections of the road make the damage to become visible, thus trapping vehicles and forcing drivers to enroute perilous lanes in the bush.
Motorbikes, for example, which the most common means of transport in the area, could pass through as the drivers are risking risk their lives daily to navigate the very slippery and damage road surface,” he said.
Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma reiterated that many vehicles usually get stranded for hours or even days to access healthcare facilities and the markets.
The people have been cut off from these vital resources in the Chiefdom.
Despite the repeated pleas to authorities concerned, no significant action has been taken till now.
The road, which connects other villages and towns, now serves as a stark reminder of the challenges it is faced by the people in the rural communities especially in the rainy season.
The lawmaker called for urgent intervention by the government through the Ministry of Works and its agency, the Sierra Leone Road Authority (SLRA) to restore safety and ensure mobility at the Tonko Limba chiefdom.
He further intimated this press about his engagement with the Works Committee in Parliament about the continuous deplorable state of the Kambia-Tonko Limba road.
