Politician, Dr Matthew Wilson Kamara, who was All People’s Congress (APC) 2018 – 23 presidential candidate, has consoled victims of a collapsed building at Shell New Road in Freetown.
The incident happened on the 16 September, 2024.
In his consolatory message, he said, “My heart is heavy with grief as our nation witnesses the devastation caused by the collapse of a seven-storey building at Shell New Road. I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the eight victims so far who tragically lost their lives in this disaster, including three adult males, two adult females, two young girls, and a young boy,” he said.
According to Dr. Samura, the loss of these innocent lives, particularly the children, to him and the nation,” is a heartbreaking reminder of the vulnerability of the people of Sierra Leone.”
He noted, to the survivors who have been pulled from the rubble, deserved his unwavering support and prayers for their soon recovery.
“You have endured unimaginable trauma, and as I commend the medical teams for their heroic intervention, I likewise urge them to provide the best possible care as you heal from this catastrophe, ” he said.
He praised the brave men and women of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), the Freetown City Council (FCC), defence personnel, and all the dedicated volunteers and workers on the disaster scene, thanking them for their tireless efforts.
“Your courage and commitment to saving lives in these dangerous conditions embody the spirit of Sierra Leone. We are all deeply grateful for the risks you are taking to saving up more of our brothers and sisters. Your service is an exemplary sacrifice to the nation and humanity, “he stated.
Dr. Samura Kamara said,” let us continue to stand together as a nation in this time of sorrow for these and for all other victims of similar disasters in recent times.”
He pledged his support in ensuring that the country learns from this tragedy and takes every possible step to prevent future disasters from happening.
“We remain hopeful as rescue efforts are in progress. Our thoughts and prayers are with those still trapped under the debris, and we pray for their safe recovery.
