One of the executive members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has informed this medium that Hon Mohamed Bangura of the APC will lead the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ‘Sorbeh’ in the 2028 general elections in Sierra Leone.
Hon Mohamed Bangura was once a member of the People’s Movement for Democratic Change in 2007 elections and he later formed his own political party, United Democratic Movement (UDM) in 2012.
Hon Bangura defected to the APC when he was appointed as Minister of Information and Communications.
Running to the 2023 general elections, Hon Mohamed Bangura was elected as Member of Parliament for Karene District under the umbrella of the APC party, a position Hon Bangura is currently serving twice, five years each, as MP lasting 2028.
Bangura was among the few MPs humiliated and beaten during the elections of Dr Chernor Abass Bundu as Speaker and then after he was hospitalized at the Choitram Hospital in Freetown.
Hon Bangura is regarded by many as lead for political transfer (political renegade ).
In 2022, for example, Mohamed Bangura changed his manner of approach while in Parliament.
He was seen supporting the government at his bench in Parliament, the reason, many said, was for him not to be among the 10 MPs who were removed from Parliament.
He supported the regime of President Julius Maada Bio through and through in the last 5th Parliament.
After the 2023 general elections, Mohamed Bangura, was reelected as the Member of Parliament through the Proportional Representation voting system.
The elections were contested by his political party (APC).
The APC boycotted the Parliament demanding accountability after the declaration of the official results which went not in their favour.
Back then, after June 27, on the announcement of President Maada Bio the winner, the APC in its press releases demanded disaggregated data of the June 2023 election and resisted not to attend Parliament if the results are not produced by ECSL and government.
Hon Mohamed Bangura was the only politician who became defiant with his political party and went alone on his accord in Parliament.
Hon Bangura also influenced Hon Alfred Thomson to join him, a call that Thomson heeded.
Out of the 54 APC MPs elected, Hon Bangura and Thomson had formed a cabal against their political party (APC), thus injecting bad blood between them and their party that provided them the constituency seat to contest on.
To date Hon Bangura is closely working with the government bench in parliament rather than being a vibrant opposition MP against the ruling party.
He voted against the opposition in almost all bills or agreements taken to the chambers of parliament.
Sources close to Hon Mohamed Bangura have revealed that, he has consented to lead his father Thamu Bangura’s PDP Sorbeh political party come 2028 elections.
Analysts have said he is knowing fully well that, the APC will expell him because they may perceive him as their betrayal.
Confirmed sources have stated that Bangura will challenge his political party, APC, in the next general election.
One of the PDP stakeholders has said, the death of Prince Coker has also positioned Hon Mohamed Bangura in a very comfortable position.
