Amadu Wurie, a-43-years-old, with a promising career and was looking forward to taking up an important role as the Acting Director of Social Welfare at the Ministry of Social Welfare (MSW) in Kono District, but fate seems to dim out his cherished hopes.
The promising role has ever been his excitement.
On 5th October 2022 at 4:00pm in the afternoon, Amadu Wurie and his colleagues were heading to Kono when they were involved in a devastating head on collision with a truck along the Ropolon, Magburaka/Kono, Main Motor Road in Magburaka Town.
The incident left two men dead while Amadu Wurie is left with a life-threatening situation.
Amadu Wurie survived the crash but was injured badly.
A medical report seen by our reporter showed that Amadu suffers severe spinal fracture and other serious medical complications.
Since the accident, Amadu Wurie living with his catastrophic injury, is receiving treatments at the Life Care Hospital in Freetown.
Due to the serious nature of his injury and the amount of medical diagnoses he is to take, Amadu Wurie has been in the hospital for months without the intervention from the driver who was responsible for the accident.
Neither has he received any assistance from his employers at the Ministry of Social Welfare.
According to the victim, his family has spent over US $11, 500 on his first medical operation bill and a total of over Le 500 million old leones has been spent so far.
But his condition seems to be getting worse and so he requires another major operation abroad.
Mr. Wurie from his hospital bed told our reporter that “all effort to reach his former employer at Social Welfare Ministry has been very challenging for him.”
Mr. Wurie who worked at the Ministry of Social Welfare also said that “he and his colleague were heading to Kono District to take up his new duty as Acting Director in the Ministry of Social Welfare when they were hit by an oncoming truck that killed his colleague and the driver.”
No one has yet been charged to court for the accident.
The matter is still under police investigation.
Our reporter spoke with Amadu’s family and they expressed concerns that Amadu is still waiting to receive assistance from the Ministry of Social Welfare and are calling on the government and “good-hearted individuals to help save his life.”
Apart from the huge cost of the operation, the family is also battling to pay up the hospital bed fee, costing Le 1,000 daily at the Life Care Hospital in Freetown.
The family is calling on government especially the Ministry of Social Welfare to help facilitate his operation abroad as he has been a social welfare officer that has contributed immensely to the development of Sierra Leone.
The family is also calling on the general public for help.
