The year 2022 had been one of the worst years in the history of Sierra Leone since the country gained its Independence from British rule. It was the year that democracy was totally killed at birth and it was the time the citizenry needed it most, after the demise of late former President Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Tejan Kabbah who erected the strong pillars of Democracy followed by former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.
The year 2022 had witnessed a dramatic turn in the democratic process of Sierra Leone, where the Constitution of Sierra Leone was completely ignored in performing State functions.
Every Sierra Leonean is expecting 2023 to be a narrow path to democracy after experiencing the bitterness of 2022 where killings, violation of the 1991 Constitution coupled with harassment, victimization of the Main Opposition party, creation of new offices at the detriment of the economy was done.
No amount of sugar-coated words can satisfy the ordinary Sierra Leonean except they all thread on the path to democracy.
For a long time now, the people have all been yearning for Democracy to continue to grow rapidly more than how it was left by the two Presidents, but unfortunately that is not the case.
Sierra Leoneans young or old know that democracy is the foundation to unbreakable process of every government in power to improve the social, political and the economic life of the society.
Plus or minus the people need it as without a proper democratic process put in place the 2023 election that everybody is talking about will be a sham.
Democracy is ours, we need it.
