The Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) and Sierra Leone Electricity Water Regulatory Commission (SLEWRC) with support from The World Bank will embark on a nationwide energy sensitization.
The two entities made this disclosure at launching ceremony on Friday 19th July 2024 at their EWRC head office, on Berwick Street in Freetown.
Addressing journalists and other attendees during the official launching ceremony, the Director General of EWRC, Emmanuel Mannah, said the two institutions through the support of World Bank will sensitize the general public on energy usage.
He said citizens need to know how to use energy, adding it will save them financially if they get used to the habit of using electricity in an appropriate way.
Director Mannah said a lot of people have been using appliances which consume a lot of energy, but with adequate sensitization, he said, on how to use electricity, citizens will reduce their spending on energy as they save huge cost
He said they are going to sensitize on the dangers those illegally abstracting electricity.
Director Mannah said the eight weeks sensitization will target both users of television, radio, social media, newspapers owners among others.
The Information Communication Technology consultant for the project Dr. Korsu Kandeh, said their role in this sensitization is to cascade the information to the general public in a format that can be understood by the ordinary customers.
He said they will be making jingles, fliers and other IRC materials for the consumers to understand the messages.
On his part, Commissioner Maluku Sulaiman Tarawally, thanked the World Bank for their swift intervention in supporting the two entities to sensitize the general public on energy usage.
He assured the general public that after the completion of the nationwide energy sensitization, citizens will be able to understand what type of appliances they should be buying for home use and how to use those appliances at a given time.
He called on citizens to embrace the sensitization drive as it is for their own good.
