After a hiatus of over 3 decades, Bo School has been gifted Fish Ponds by the Old Bo Boys Association Western Area Branch. This epochal event took place on Saturday November 9th on the school campus when the OBBA Western Area Branch Chairman 5017 Ambrose James led a team of dedicated OBBA members to the turning of the sod for the construction of the Fish Ponds.
In his succinct address Chairman James reiterated his commitment to the development aspirations he presented to his colleagues before his election as Chairman in 2023.
Mr. James thanked all those who contributed to his first 100 days fund raising drive which attracted funds a little above the target of Le1 billion. The mercurial Chairman emphasized the importance of the Fish Pond project as one that does not only benefit the school but the country as a whole. He thanked the Minister of Agriculture, an alumnus of Bo School, Hon. Henry Kpaka for his technical and financial support in bringing the project to fruition.
OBBA WA is contributing to H.E 3919 President Julius Maada Bio’s agenda of Feed Salone. As a Bo School boy, the alumni is contributing to his vision.
The project is also supporting nutrition interventions for pupils. Fish is nutritious and high in protein which will support education outcomes.
The project further serves as an entrepreneurship for the branch. It is a fund raising initiative for OBBA Western Area as some portion of the harvest will be sold and proceeds given to the branch. Additionally, it will enhance Agriculture Practicals especially aquaculture skills for Pupils and Teachers
This groundbreaking initiative, conceived by the OBBA Western Area branch of OBBA, signifies a pivotal achievement in the alumni association’s enduring dedication to collaborate for the good of the School and community. The launch of the Fish Pond Project also commemorates the inception of a transformative initiative that encapsulates the value of progress, innovation, entrepreneurship and empowerment.
Historically, the creation and management of a Fish Pond is not a novelty in its entirety on Bo School Campus. In the mid to late 1980s, the British born Chemistry teacher Mr. Howard Jones, established a Fish Pond under the adroit leadership of the then Principal 1408 Festus Michael Seiwoh. The difference however with this one is that Fish Pond Project signifies a paradigm shift that assuages Government’s obligation to provide fish for the boarding boys, further assuring OBBA’s resolve towards contributing to food self-sufficiency. The initiative transcends merely providing sustenance to the boys on campus. It aims to cultivate a sense of responsibility and demonstrates the efficacy of local solutions to common challenges associated with food security. The protein component of the diet of Bo School boarders is very critical for the smooth growth of the boys and this project seeks to effectively address it.
