The Deputy Opposition 2. Hon. Aaron Aruna Koroma has urged Parliament to summon Orange Sierra Leone for being now the most expensive tariff company in Sierra Leone.
The MP hails from Tonkolili district, north of Sierra Leone. A statement that the Deputy Speaker of Parliament heeded.
This statement was made on Thursday 31st of October 2025 during the approval of Presidential nominees in the Chamber of Parliament.
However, the Speaker of Parliament has constituted a six-man committee to look into Orange alleged tariff increments.
Hon Koroma said the nominees are very fine people who would create the needed change in their respective offices. He added that the president would have considered their qualifications for such jobs. He called the attention of the nominees to pay critical attention to the jobs they were appointed for. He made special reference to the Consumer Protection Commission, adding that the commission had long abandoned and had not been protecting the consumers. He called on Members of the Commission to address the issue of expired goods in the interests of the consumers.
He also called on the appointees to be more responsive in their responsibilities. He decried the terrible network of the Mobile Network, which, he said, the Consumer Protection Agency, had not been effective in protecting consumers of those offices. Hon. Koroma also noted of the goods which expired in shops, believing that the Consumer Protection Agency has not been protecting food consumers of Sierra Leone.
He also decried price discrimination across Sierra Leone due to a lack of infective consumer protection.
He said the NRA had done much with regards the passing of NRA Act of 2022 in terms of revenue generation.
He said the new Finance Act imposes double tax on citizens of the nation with little impacts on the people in terms of development. He called on the NRA to make new innovations in terms of generating taxes.
Hon. Mustapha Sellu from Moyamba said the duties of the Consumer Protection Agency on the people have not been fulfilled to satisfy citizens. He said one is told only about the agency when the institution comes for approval in Parliament. He called for more popularizations of the consumer protection agency so that the agency could be seen across the radius and circumference of the country. He called on Members of the Board to perform their functions as expected after their approvals. He also called on them to read their Consumer Protection Act to help them in the administration of their jobs.
