The Deputy Speaker of Parliament who doubles as the Chairman of the Public Account Committee has stated that his committee will recover Le 2.39 billion today, Tuesday.
Hon Tawa Conteh also informed MPs that in the coming days he is poised to recover about Le billion in from the Ministry of Agriculture.
He made the submissions on Monday 1st July, 2024 during a vetting out process of the Ministry of Lands at the Administrative Building in Parliament.
He said recovering government money required no compromise.
“We are going to ensure that everyone who holds government money refunds it. Even if it involves my relative, or an MP, one must pay. I will not show any compromise,” he warned.
He said everyone knows that President Bio risks his life to fly over to get money elsewhere for the development of Sierra Leone but, he said, once those monies come into the country, there are people who sit in their offices and to squander the money.
He said those monies will be recovered but with no interest rates attached on them.
The female MP from Kailahun District, Hon Lolloh Tongi said officials of the Ministry of Lands are responsible for backwardness of the country, adding that Lands Ministry officials must be removed at once and bring fresh crop of very honest individuals.
She said 90% of the court cases are emanating from the Ministry of Lands.
Hon Tongi said it is now time for officials to recoup government’s monies and ensure that these e officials are brought to book.
