Twenty-years-old, Abdulai Kamara, who is a bike rider, has been sentenced to twelve months imprisonment. He made his appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Pademba road court No.1 in Freetown, and he was standing on a count one for escaping from a lawful police custody as contrary to law.
The Criminal Procedure Act frowns at such a crime.
According to the particulars of offence on the 1st June 2024 at Congo Cross police station in Freetown, being a charged prisoner awaiting trial, did escape from police custody.
When the charge was read and explained to the accused person, he pleaded guilty.
The prosecutor Detective Police Constable 17649 Kargbo B told the Magistrate that on per charge there was no available records against the accused person.
The accused person pleaded with the magistrate to temper justice with mercy on his behalf.
According to him he was at the custody of the police officers and all of them left him at the office and later a police officer came and gave him money to buy water and thus he took the advantage to escape.
Due to the plea mitigation by the accused person, magistrate Kekura sentenced him to twelve months imprisonment to the male correctional facility in Freetown.
