Except for those who are blind or economical with the truth otherwise, there is candidly nothing to write home about since the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party came into power save the countless miseries from hunger, hyperinflation, joblessness, ever increasing prices of essential commodities including the country’s staple food rice, high transport fare, unrealistic electricity supply, shortage of pure and safe drinking water to poor health facilities and the list goes on and on.
In the nutshell, the country’s economy has been badly damaged.
Five years down the line, all what Sierra Leoneans have experienced is too much pressure punctuated by extreme hardship which has undeniably reduced them to almost the level of destitute.
Economic activities have been shamefully and disgracefully reduced to the lowest ebb which has forced many homes to starve. Whilst some people manage to have a meal once a day, others in fact only survive on God’s grace being their only hope.
There is no need reminding people of the lofty promises President Julius Maada Bio made in his New Direction manifesto in 2018 of making life better for all Sierra Leoneans, hence the slogan “Paopa Salone for betteh.”
Interestingly however, that ‘so-called betterment’ has turned out to be the direct opposite; given the suffering the people have continued to endure since his administration came to power at the back of now opposition All People’s Congress’ (APC) complacency.
The slogan: “Man disgun ooh! Meaning people are disgruntled has become the order of the day because suffering is clearly spelt on their faces and only God knows when this brutal situation will end.
Because even as it is now, the APC which many look up to change the narrative after the trumpeted 24th June general elections is still struggling with internal problems.
Of course there is every reason for people to “disgun” considering the fact that the governor hardly listens to his subjects’ concerns instead, he prefers keeping permanent sealed lips as a better way of solving those concerns.
But just like the Krio adage says: “Time go fit cluk” (time will tell), all those sufferings will very soon come to pass through our resolve after the June 24th exercise.
