Sangbanba, a small village, northeast of Kabala town, Koinadugu District came under heavy sporadic firing, when police personnel from Kabala armed-to-the-teeth, stormed the village  allegedly that they went up a man who was accused by the witch-Doctors of killing a popular youth leader, Mohamed Kargbo.

According to reports from Sangbanba, the problem started in 2016 when one businessman Mohamed Sheriff alias Big Boy from Fadugu came to the village to forcefully take their land to build a cattle ranch (worreh) for his cattle (bulls and cows).

He made many attempts to bribe the villagers so as to cajole them get their land but the people stood their ground and say no.

In the circumstance, Big Boy allegedly used the police to intimidate and harass the locals at frequent intervals with a strong conviction that, they will succumb and handed over their land. Reportedly, Mohamed Kargbo who was vociferous among the youth of Sangbanba but work at State House in Freetown became target for continuous calling on his people not to let go an inch of the said land. During the period, Mohamed suddenly became sick and was brought to the Wilberforce Military Hospital where he was pronounced dead on the same day and after  doctors examined him but failed to diagnose the cause of the sick that led to his demise.

Couple of days after his death, the family of Mohamed Kargbo came up with a statement that, the latter’s death was not natural and therefore sought the assistance of witch Doctors.

During the ceremony by the Witch Doctors, one Foday Sesay was accused as responsible for  the death of the deceased through the application of witch gun. It was further revealed that three days prior to the sad event, Sesay left Sangbanba and travelled to stay with Mohammed Kargbo in Freetown untill his sick but did not even visit the hospital.

Allegedly when the Businessman, Big Boy heard about the arrest of the accused (Foday Sesay) by the Witch Doctors he used the police to storm the village with sporadic firing to get the accused released by the Villagers.  “But today the accused, Foday Sesay is Big Boy’s Personal Assistance in Fadugu,” the section Chief of Sangbangba, Pa Ansumana Jawara said, noting that, the Police AIG Williams north is doing nothing to  stop police harassment and beating of his people. The police boss Williams could not be contacted at the time of going to press.
