The Wise Bird has been following the activities of the newly “Sierra Leone Lawyers’ Society” to the fullest.
The brave bird is known for his patriotism, honesty and his stance for the truth; the bird will never take sides on issues of national interest.
The most respected animal has noticed of late that the newly formed Law Society stood firm for what they have been preaching against.
As the bird was flying he saw and read a statement issued by the “Law Society” which condemns the recent attempted coup in the country.
According to the statement, members of Sierra Leone Law Society unequivocally have rejected any unconstitutional attempts to overthrow a democratically elected government.
The statement went further to say that, in Sierra Leone’s evolving democratic landscape, changes in leadership must occur solely through credible electoral processes.
However, the Law Society has praised the security forces for their effort to kill the coup at birth.
It is very important that the public is properly informed about the nature and extent of the security situation in the country, the statement states.
The organization has called on state authorities to promote an environment of tolerance and for a constructive criticism.
The essence of democracy lies in accommodating public dissenting views and fostering a robust, active and unsuppressed opposition, a statement by the organization states.
Furthermore, the statement went on to say that, Lawyers’ Society of Sierra Leone remains unwavering in its commitment to upholding the rule of law and in promoting democratic values at all times.
However, the statement affirmed the organization’s determination emphasizing its dedication to a peaceful and transparent democratic process.
The Wise Bird has been waiting to see a statement from the Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) condemning the act, but it is yet to come with one, the bird stands to be corrected on this.
The brave bird is not making a case for the Sierra Leone Law Society (SLLS) only that, the bird calls things by their proper names.
