The Deputy Opposition Member of parliament, Hon Daniel Koroma from Koinadugu District, told fellow MPs that he is on serious snail, ‘grass cuter’ and rabbit rearing.
He informed colleagues on Tuesday 10th December 2024 when debating on the ratification of the grant and project agreement signed between KfW and Sierra Leone government.
According to Hon Koroma, this is a new system of farming in Sierra Leone. He said people should not only depend on rice cultivation but should deeply engage on livestock farming which, he said, is more beneficial.
He said snail and rabit are the most expensive in the world, stating that people are spending millions of dollars to buy snails.
“These livestock are the most expensive and a healthier food across the world,” he said.
Hon Koroma told the house of law that, he never had seen a millionaire who is a salary earner, adding that people should involve in farming activities, adding that farming can produce billionaires every year.
He applauded the Speaker of Parliament, Hon Sengepoh Solomon Thomas for being a coconut farmer in Sierra Leone.
He said Feed Salone project to succeed, livestock is pivotal and government should work relentlessly to ensure that livestock farming activities are sponsored.
He maintained that the product of coconut oil is part of the Feed Salone and government should augment the speaker’s work towards farming.
“Rice alone cannot make anyone healthier but it takes livestock to add to nutrition for consumers. Don’t wait to be told, employ yourself, ” he said.
Hon Daniel Koroma stressed on the need to redirect the country’s focus on agriculture and urged the ministry of finance to ensure that the Feed Salone succeeds.
He also told the House of law that some food are killer food and that his new farming activities should be augmented if the Feed Salone is to succeed.
He advised the finance ministry to follow the agreement protocols and encouraged all stakeholders and Sierra Leoneans to do agricultural activities as it has enormous potentials and benefits.
