Osman Conteh who was arrested on 12th June, 2023 was arraigned by Detective Sergeant Mansaray before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Ross Road Court No. 1 for fraudulently converting a TVS motorbike with registration number AUK 436 worth fifteen thousand new Leones (NLe15,000) belonging to Abdulai Kanneh.
Osman Conteh, 29yrs old, who was residing at White House Quarry, Kissy in Freetown, appeared before the court on a count of fraudulent conversion contrary to law.
It was alleged by the police that the accused, sometimes in October 2023 at Newscatle Street in Kissy, Freetown, fraudulently converted the said motorbike to his own used entrusted to him by the complainant for commercial purposes.
Testifying in court, prosecution witness (PW) 1, Abdulai Kanneh who is also residing at Newcastle Street in Freetown said he recognized the accused as his rider, sometimes in October 2022.
The witness said on that day, he was at home and handed his TVS motorbike with registration number AUK to the accused for commercial purposes.
The witness said they agreed that the accused should be paying him weekly, but he said the accused only complied for twelve weeks and since then the accused had been given him series of excuses in respect of the said motorbike in question.
According to him, he bought the said TVS bike twelve thousand new Leones.
At this juncture, being that the motorbike life card was not in the case file, for it to be tendered to form part of the court’s records.
The police prosecutor, Police Constable (PC) 14032 Koroma Ekuyedayo F sought for an adjournment for her witness to tender the said motorbike life card on the next adjourned date and application was granted.
Magistrate Kekura denied the accused bail and remanded him at the Male Correctional Centre on Pademba Road in Freetown.
Meanwhile, the matter was adjourned to Wednesday 2nd August 2023 for further hearing.
