The Inspector General of Police, William Fayai Sellu has made some administrative changes (Transfers) in the command structure of the Sierra Leone Police. The transfers takes place with immediate effect.
AIG Kapr S. Kamara takes over as Director of Training while AIG Aiah Edward Samadia goes as Director of Professional Standards. Assistant Commissioner of Police John Martin Senesie takes over as the new Acting Regional Commander Freetown East while AIG Sylvester Koroma goes to Freetown West as the new Regional Commander. AIG Brima Kanneh goes as the new Strategic Support Officer, to the Regional Commander South. ACP Denis Musa Taylor goes as the new Local Unit Commander Harbour Division while CSP Emmanuel Kpulun takes over Aberdeen Division.
Meanwhile the transfers have caused serious panic among senior police officers in the country.
“If the Inspector General of Police can take such measures against some of his closed friends, it sends a strong message that there is no sacred cow in the Organization,,” a senior police personnel confided in this medium. A civil society activist said even though transfers are routine exercises, something must have prompted the police Chief to take such measures at this time as the country prepares for the elections. He described IGP Sellu as a disciplined and seasoned police officer who takes tough actions when necessary. The activist predicts that he foresee another transfer to enable him position the Force to professionally police the forth coming elections.
