The Deputy Opposition Leader in Parliament, Hon Daniel Brima Koroma, has urged the Speaker of Parliament to urgently fix up the very bad road stretching from Model Junction to the perimeter of Parliament of Sierra Leone.
Hon Daniel Brima Koroma made the kind request on Thursday 11th July 2024 during the debate on the agreement between the Government of Sierra Leone and the Gento Group of Companies in the Chambers of Parliament.
According to Hon Koroma it is a shame to see that parliament which makes laws and approves budgets is having terrible roads on a mockery display.
“Mr Speaker, we have reported about this road since the 5th Parliament but up till now no one has addressed the concerns of MPs.”
“The roads leading to Parliament should be first class. The road is very bad to see when driving towards parliament,” he disclosed.
He went further to say that since the Minister of Finance, the Bank Governor and Gento, were around, the Speaker should engage them to swiftly work to fix the deplorable road.
He reminded them that parliament is a place where almost everyone visits on a daily basis and so to have very deplorable routes leading to parliament raise a serious cause for concern for all MPs.
Other members of parliament who spoke to this medium have also expressed dismay over the neglected wooden bridge from the Administrative Building within Parliament.
Many have described the “wooden bridge” as a death-trap.”
“The boards used to fix the bridge up are counterfeit and have certainly turned the place to a death-trap risking the lives of peddlers using the way,” the MPs said.
They suggested for Parliament to close down that route to avoid accidents leading people’s breading their feet.
